Learning outcomes
The development of deep knowledge and understanding of the subject area of urban studies among students, as well as an understanding of the professional activities of an urban geographer and manager; the ability to identify, formulate, and solve problems in the field of urban development and urban systems. This is achieved through the completion of creative, analytical, and computational tasks, fostering the ability to apply acquired knowledge of urban studies and urban planning in practical situations. Additionally, it involves developing the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of the fundamental characteristics, processes, history, and composition of nature and society in urbanized spaces. Furthermore, it includes acquiring knowledge and skills to use theories, paradigms, concepts, and principles specific to urban studies.

1. Knowledge of the fundamentals of secondary school geography. 2. Proficiency in basic skills of general scientific methods.
Course content
The course "Introduction to Urban Studies" lays the foundation for knowledge in urban studies and urban planning. By incorporating contributions from various scientific fields through the lens of a socio-geographical approach, the course develops a system of new knowledge about the main stages and directions of urban research, the prerequisites and patterns of spatial evolution of urban settlement systems, and the latest trends in the development of modern cities as growth poles of national economies and global economic development. The course establishes the fundamentals of comprehensive urban research, exploring urbanization processes and issues related to city development dynamics, agglomeration, and the formation of metropolitan areas. It also examines phenomena that connect cities to broader economic and industrial systems, as well as the spatial structure of cities and the transformations reflected in their physical, economic, social, and cultural dimensions.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, seminar, individual work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course consists of two content-based sections. Classes are conducted in the form of lectures and seminars. The course concludes with an exam. Semester assessment: The number of points a student earns during the semester is the sum of the points received for participation in seminar activities and for completing thematic control tests. Assessment organization: Performance in seminars is evaluated based on participation, following the seminar schedule. Thematic control tests are conducted in a test format.
