Learning outcomes
LO06. Determine the main characteristics, processes, history and composition of the Earth as a planetary system and its geospheres, including the pedosphere. LO 08. Justify the choice and use field and laboratory methods for the analysis of natural and anthropogenic systems and objects. LO10. To analyze the composition and structure of the pedosphere on different spatial and temporal scales. LO13. Be able to communicate the results of activities to a professional audience and the general public, make presentations and messages.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) successful mastering of such educational disciplines as "Introduction to soil science", "Fundamentals of general and historical geology", "Geomorphology", "Climatology with the basics of meteorology", "Physical geography of continents and oceans", "Cartography", "Complex discipline. Educational practice on the basics of natural and geographical field research. Part 5. Soil science research", "Soil physics", "Soil chemistry", "Genesis and morphology of soils". 2) to be able to establish relationships between soils and factors of soil formation, to analyze landscape components as factors in the formation of the profile structure and properties of soils, to have basic skills in the analysis of cartographic materials of various contents.
Course content
The study discipline "Land cover and land resources of the world" consists of two content modules. The first of them is devoted to the consideration of the global functions of soils as natural bodies, the analysis of factors and features of soil formation processes in different regions of the planet, and the study of the structure of modern soil cover within the continents of Eurasia, Africa, Australia, North and South America. The second module is devoted to consideration of issues related to the general characteristics of the world's land resources, their purpose, geographical distribution, as well as the peculiarities of the development of soil degradation processes in different parts of the world and methods of their rational use and protection.

Assessment methods and criteria
Survey in test and written form; performance of practical and independent tasks, exam. The recommended minimum for admission is 36 points. For students who scored a total of less than 36 points (recommended minimum), writing essays on missed or insufficiently mastered topics is a mandatory condition for admission to the exam. The final evaluation in the form of an exam is conducted in a written format. The maximum number of points on the exam is 40, the minimum number of points added to semester points is 24 (60% of the maximum number of points assigned to the exam).
