Learning outcomes
LO04. Use information technologies, cartographic and geo-informational models in the field of Earth sciences, in particular in soil science. LO07. Apply models, methods and data of physics, chemistry, biology, ecology, mathematics, information technologies, etc. when studying natural processes of formation and development of the pedosphere. LO15. Be able to choose optimal methods and tools for research, data collection and processing.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastering of such mandatory disciplines as "Topography", "Field topographic surveying"; 2. Skills in using cartographic materials, in particular topographic ones; 3. Elementary skills in using graphic editors Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator.
Course content
The course "Cartography" consists of two content modules. The first module is devoted to the structure of cartography, its connection with other sciences, theoretical concepts in cartography, the mathematical basis of cartographic works, types of cartographic works, methods and techniques of mapping, inscriptions on maps and cartographic generalization. The second module reveals the issue of designing, compiling and publishing maps, the use of cartographic works in scientific work, the connection of cartography with geoinformatics, remote sensing methods of the Earth; use of maps and general requirements, analysis and assessment of cartographic sources; modern methods of development and technologies of compilation of cartographic works.

Assessment methods and criteria
Protection of practical work, modular control work, assessment. The recommended minimum for admission is 36 points. For students who scored a total of less than 36 points (recommended minimum), writing essays on missed or insufficiently mastered topics is a mandatory condition for admission to the credit. The final assessment in the form of credit is conducted in written format. The maximum number of points on the test is 40 points, the minimum number of points added to semester points is 24 points.
