Learning outcomes
The discipline examines the theoretical foundations, methods and technology of studying the Earth's surface using aerospace surveys as a complex of measuring, computing, graphic, decoding and other types of work. It aims to familiarize students with the physical features of electromagnetic radiation for remote sensing and means of its fixation; analysis of existing types of aerospace surveys; analysis of the capabilities and features of technical means of surveying; to develop skills in thematic decoding of images; use of remote sensing materials in GIS.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know: - basics of computer science; - physical foundations of electromagnetic radiation; - nature and characteristics of optical radiation; - features of the passage of radiation through the Earth's atmosphere; Be able to: Possess basic skills in using cartographic works to identify objects in images.
Course content
The discipline is focused on mastering modern theoretical and practical foundations of processing space survey data. Basic information on methods and means of obtaining aerospace images of the Earth's surface is presented, the features of remote sensing materials such as photographic, television, radar, scanner, etc. are analyzed. The discipline provides basic knowledge of geoinformatics and geographic information systems (GIS). The discipline consists of two content modules. The first is devoted to the basics of remote sensing of the Earth, the history of the development of the space industry and remote sensing methods in the world and in Ukraine. The physical foundations of electromagnetic radiation, the features of the passage of light through the Earth's atmosphere, technical and technological aspects of recording electromagnetic radiation by various survey systems are indicated. The second module is devoted to the basics of geoinformatics. The history of the development of GIS, the concept and classification of GIS, information support and components of GIS are considered.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, practical work, solving specific problems, discussion
Assessment methods and criteria
The level of achievement of all planned learning outcomes is determined by the results of practical work and modular tests. The specific weight of learning outcomes in the final assessment, provided that they are mastered at the proper level, is as follows: learning outcomes – 1.1-1.5 (knowledge) – up to 5% for each; learning outcomes – 2 (skills PH 2.1-2.2) – up to 40%; learning outcomes – 2 (skills PH 2.3-2.4) – up to 15%; learning outcomes – 3 (communication) – up to 15%. A two-level assessment of the learned material is provided, in particular, assessment of theoretical preparation (20%) and assessment of practical preparation (80%). The forms of checking students' knowledge and skills are: practical work; modular tests, independent work. The completion of two content modules and all practical work during the semester is mandatory for passing the test.
