Learning outcomes
To acquaint students with the history of the formation and the current state of the source and theoretical and methodological base of regional studies and political geography, their paradigms, theories and worldview concepts. As a result of studying the discipline, students must clearly operate with the conceptual and terminological apparatus and methodological base of regional studies and political geography to characterize the relevant phenomena and processes at different spatial and temporal levels (FC-7); master classical and modern schemes of regional studies and political and geographical research, the essence of scientific principles and types of research programs of regional studies; understand the essence of civilizational, world-system, typological approaches and the scheme of regional studies zoning of the world; know the essence, rules and basic typologies and classifications of sciences; use the knowledge gained to write coursework, diploma and other research papers.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastery of the discipline "Geographical local history and regional studies", "Introduction to university studies", "Social geography", "Historical and geographical foundations of the formation of a political map of the world".
2. Be able to determine and analyze the general causes, course and consequences of socio-geographical processes.
3. Possess the skills of analysis, synthesis, comparison, and work with cartographic material.
Course content
Information is provided on the stages of formation and the contribution of individual foreign and domestic researchers to the formation of the theoretical and methodological basis of regional studies and political geography; the evolution of their paradigms, theories and concepts. The essence of civilizational, world-system, typological approaches and historical and geographical zoning of the world is revealed. Classical and modern schemes of regional studies are analyzed, the possibilities of their application for writing term papers are analyzed. A sovereign state is considered as an integral territorial and political system. Scientific approaches to regional studies and political and geographical studies of the state territory, borders, political and geographical position, internal geospatial structure, capital; nature, population, economic structures are highlighted.

Assessment methods and criteria
The course has two substantive parts. Classes are held in the form of lectures and practical work, individual tasks on regional studies and political and geographical issues are provided. The discipline ends with an exam. During the semester, after completing the relevant topics (see the thematic plan of the discipline), final tests are held (the first includes topics 1-7, the second - 8-13). Final tests are held in the form of tests and open questions and are designed to identify the knowledge and skills obtained when mastering the relevant topics (up to 20 points). At lectures, blitz surveys are conducted to identify the level of assimilation of relevant knowledge during the semester. The final score (up to 5 points) is the arithmetic average of all surveys, each of which is evaluated on a 5-point scale. Seminars are held according to the working curriculum according to the prescribed schedule. Some seminars are held in a classic format (up to 10 points of total grade).
