Learning outcomes
To develop critical analysis skills; to explain socio-political phenomena and processes, their presentation in the media, everyday consciousness and scientific theories with an emphasis on modern sociological and political interpretation; to develop the ability to identify, pose and solve problems, to systematize knowledge about the peculiarities of the functioning of modern social and political systems, their structural elements and the effectiveness of their activities. The objectives of the discipline “Socio-Political Studies” are to provide students with general and professional competencies provided for by this educational program.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know the main characteristics of the formation and development of society.
2. Be able to receive and interpret information about social processes, understand political events that occur in modern society.
3. Have the skills of searching, critical selection and systematization of information of both applied and theoretical nature.
Course content
The discipline is aimed at highlighting the main achievements of world and domestic socio-behavioral and humanitarian knowledge.
The principles and trends of the functioning of social and political systems in general, the state as a fundamental social and political institution,
public organizations and political parties and their ideological foundations are revealed. The social and political essence of power, the methods and limits of its exercise, the current historical and modern features of the transformation of social structures and political regimes, the essence of social and political relations in Ukraine are explained. The characteristics of traditional and (post)modern, democratic and non-democratic realities are compared.

Assessment methods and criteria
Classes are held in the form of lectures and seminars. The discipline ends with a test. Semester assessment: the number of points that a student receives during the semester is the sum of the points that were obtained when evaluating the work based on the results of oral reports, participation in discussions, writing essays, analytical research, presentation of independent research, and test work. Assessment organization: Work in seminar classes is assessed based on performance, in accordance with the schedule of seminar classes. The essay involves understanding the role of society and politics in human life (based on materials from fiction or journalistic literature/cinema. Analytical research involves comparing the political systems of two selected countries. The presentation of independent research is carried out on the basis of developing a draft program of one's own political party.
