Learning outcomes
To give students an integral view on human geography as a geographical discipline, in particular: understanding the content and critical use of key terms, categories, theories and concepts of human geography; understanding the main characteristics, patterns and factors of territorial division of labor, spatial organization of society and development of socio-spatial processes; mastering research methods in human geography aimed at analyzing the spatial organization of society at different spatial-temporal levels; understanding of the subject field and professional activity in population, economic, social, urban, cultural, political and recreational geography studies; mastering the Ukrainian and English key terms and concepts in human geography, the ability to use it in scientific discussion

Course content
This course is an introductory to study specialized courses in the academic program “Urban Studies and Planning.” It is devoted to the study the role of human geography in the contemporary world and the system of sciences, the main approaches to defining the research subject, content, structure and functions of human geography, development of human geography ideas, key terms and concepts in human geography, in particular the concepts of “territory/space”, “spatial organization”, “territorial division of labor”, “site/situation”, “socio-spatial processes”; laws and patterns in human geography, theories and concepts of location and regional development, socio-geographical regionalization; quantitative and qualitative research methods in human geography. This discipline also involves the study of key concepts of population geography, economic, social, urban, cultural, political and recreational geography as well as applied human geography.

Assessment methods and criteria
The course consists of two thematic parts. The classes include lectures and seminar. Final assessment is in the form of examination. Semester assessment: the number of points that the student receives during the semester is the sum of the points obtained during the evaluation of work in seminar classes, elaboration and defense of presentations and performance of thematic control works. Organization of assessment: work in seminar classes is evaluated upon completion, in accordance with the schedule of seminar classes. Thematic control works are conducted in the form of tests. Learning outcomes in the case of mastery at the appropriate level are assessed as follows: 1. Seminar talks and discussions – from 20 to 30 points. 2. Presenting individual work results – from 6 to 10 points. 3. Tests – from 10 to 20 pints.
