Learning outcomes
1. Know: stages and levels of card use; consider the cartographic method of research in the "map creation-use" system; to know the principles of cartographic modeling; properties of cartographic models, as well as the interaction of cartographic models with other models; modern understanding of cartographic information and recognize a cartographic image; to know the classification of map analysis techniques (visual description on maps, graphic techniques, cartometric and morphometric techniques, mathematical modeling). 2. Be able to: apply the principles of cartographic modeling; to know the main properties of cartographic models; recognize the cartographic image and the cartographic triad: sign, image, information; carry out visual analysis and description on maps; apply graphic methods of map analysis, cartometric and morphometric measurements on maps for further study of the research object; perform mathematical modeling.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of mandatory and optional subjects according to the curriculum of the 1st and 2nd year of training (1–3 semesters).
Course content
The educational discipline "General geographic maps" is based on a cycle of disciplines of professional and practical training, in particular "Mathematical cartography", "Cartographic drawing, engineering and computer graphics", "Design and compilation of maps", "Cartography", "Thematic maps", " GIS-information mapping" etc.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Current (semester) assessment (laboratory work (minimum grade 24, maximum 40; control papers (6-10); independent work (5-10)). Final (final) assessment in the form of an exam (assessment for theory knowledge (minimum 15, maximum 40 points). For students who scored a total of less points than the critical calculation minimum - 35 points, for admission to the final control form, it is necessary to pass an additionally completed individual complex task.
Assessment methods and criteria
The level of achievement of all planned learning outcomes is determined by the results of checking and defending laboratory works, writing written tests, and an exam. The specific weight of learning outcomes in the final assessment, provided they are mastered at the appropriate level, is as follows: knowledge (1.1–1.4 – 30 points); skills (2.1–2.4 – 20 points); communication (3.1 – 40 points); autonomy and responsibility (4.1 – 10 points).
