Know - the main groups of mammals - inhabitants of different types of environments; the functional role of certain groups of mammals in ecosystems; features of mammalian adaptations to different living conditions; principles of conservation of mammal species diversity. 2. Be able to - determine the systematic affiliation of different representatives of mammals; choose methods for mammalian research; to organize complex studies of theriofauna in certain ecosystems. 3. Have basic skills in research in the field of theriology, methods of field observations, statistical data processing.
Course content
The need for this discipline is determined by the need to understand the specifics of the structure and functioning of mammals, the principles of their relationship with the environment. The study of the discipline involves prior acquaintance with the normative course "Zoology" and complements the systematic sections of zoology (protozoology, carcinology, entomology, batrachoherpetology, ornithology, etc.). However, it is closely related to disciplines such as biogeocenology, biodiversity. The teaching of this discipline is aimed at theoretical and practical mastering by students of methods of research of mammals, formation at future experts of theoretical knowledge, abilities and practical skills of an estimation of a condition of their population. Understanding the mechanisms of change in the number of mammalian populations is very important, as these processes are closely related to changes in the state of the environment.
