Course content
The discipline "Structure and metabolism of lipids" introduces students to modern principles of structure, classification, physicochemical properties and biological functions of lipids. Particular attention is paid to the unique characteristics of lipids, which make them the main structural elements of all cell membranes. There are also concepts of energy, signaling function of individual lipids, the involvement of lipids in the functioning of regulatory systems of the cell, the prospects for the use of lipids in pharmaceuticals and various industries. The discipline presents modern ideas about the peculiarities of lipid metabolism in normal and pathology, in particular the phenomenon of free radical transformations of their molecules, transport features and their participation in the development of pathological conditions: a review of lipid metabolism in prokaryotes and plants.
