Learning outcomes
The student should know: Types of non-ionizing radiation. Photophysical and photochemical processes in biological structures. Mechanisms of ablation of biotissues under the action of laser radiation. Penetrating ability of ionizing radiation. General properties of the action of ionizing radiation on biological objects. Principles of target theory. Structural and metabolic theory. Types of radiation cell death. Proliferative cell death. Radiosensitivity of cells. The nature of radiation cell death. Post-radiation cell recovery - reparation. Radiation damage to DNA and RNA. Radiation damage to proteins and lipids. The student should be able to: Make numerical estimates of the impact of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation on human tissues. Use medical and technical equipment to study the impact of intense laser radiation on biological tissues. Analyze biospecimens using absorption and Raman spectroscopy methods. Prepare competent reports for laboratory work.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The course is a continuation of the cycle of applied physics courses. Knowledge of the classical sections of general physics, higher mathematics (mathematical analysis, differential equations), the basics of biophysics and organic chemistry is necessary for successful mastering of the course.
Course content
Knowledge is provided about the mechanisms of interaction of radiation with biological structures, the formation of primary damage to biologically important molecules and damage to cells, cell populations and whole multicellular organisms, optical characteristics of biological tissues, laser medical technologies, photodynamic therapy, methods of introducing laser radiation in medicine, features of the use of lasers.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures - 20 hours. Laboratory - 20 hours.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: the academic discipline has two meaningful modules, each of which is assessed within 25 points (total 50 points). Final evaluation (in the form of an exam): the form of the exam is written and oral. Examination ticket for 2 questions and a test for 30 questions (total 50 points).
