Course content
Discipline is normative. The learning model has a modular, cyclical and thematic nature. The motivation for mastering a foreign language is the professional need of students who are preparing to become highly qualified specialists with knowledge of one or more languages. In view of this, one of the main features of the English language course in non-language higher education institutions is its division into two directions - "General language" and "Language for professional purposes". They differ in the subject matter and lexical composition of the educational material, but are based on the same grammatical material. According to the "General language" direction, formation and development of skills and abilities of all types of speech activity (listening, speaking, reading, writing) is carried out. Language learning takes place on text materials of everyday and general cognitive topics, as well as of a country science and cultural nature.

Assessment methods and criteria
Control is carried out according to the credit-module system. The semester consists of two modules. The structure of each module includes three components: classroom work of the student, independent work of the student, modular control work. The assessment of the student’s current work is based on a ten-point system, according to the following scheme: Student’s classroom work / Student’s independent work / Modular control work: The final grade for each content module is the weighted average of the classroom, independent and control work, making up 40% of the resulting sum of points for semester and is a maximum of 40 points. The resulting sum of points for the semester is calculated as a simple cumulative sum of the final points for the 2 content modules and the exam, which is valued at a maximum of 20 points, for a maximum of 100 points.
