Learning outcomes
To know : The main variations of the meaning of the term "identity" in the historical dynamics of scientific research Subject, theoretical and methodological foundations, tasks of modern research on the phenomenon of identity Structural types of identity, dominance/interconnection/interdependence of types of identity; distinctive features of Ukrainian culture and the culture of the Ukrainian diaspora. Essence and consequences of cultural identities contradictions in the modern world Skills: Solve tasks and problems requiring interdisciplinary cultural studies Analyse the phenomenon of identity Argue the dialectic of interconnection / interdependence of types of identity Identify contradictions in cultural identities Communication: Use knowledge of foreign languages to analyse information resources Present research results Autonomy and responsibility: To critically process informative sources independently

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prior to studying this course, students should know the main stages and characteristics of the historical and cultural process; basic cultural concepts and categories; basics of political science, ethics, culture of everyday life; basic cultural theories and methods of cultural studies. Be able to collect and interpret information on cultural phenomena; apply basic terms, categories and classifications of cultural studies; identify current trends in the coexistence of different cultures in the context of globalisation and intercultural dialogue. Have basic skills of working with consolidated information.

Part 1: The phenomenon of identity in the context of interdisciplinary research The phenomenon of identity Empirical foundations of the modern discourse on identity Types and strategies of identity acquisition Ultimate foundations of cultural identity Value determinants of cultural identity: challenges of the Ukrainian Cultural identities of the indigenous peoples of Crimea Contradictions of cultural identities in the modern world: Catalonia, Basque Country, Galicia, Valencia Part 2. Cultural dimensions of mentality The concept of "mentality" Mentality and cultural archetypes Universal and ethnic archetypes of collective consciousness, basic archetypes of world mythology and their features Mentality of the individual. Social stereotypes and "verbal" mentality Worldview archetypes and the highest level of mentality (national and civilisational consciousness). National character as an expression of cultural mentality Specific features of national characters: a comparative analysis. Cultural analysis of ethno-cultural stereotypes Ukrainian mentality and symbols of Ukrainian culture Archetypes and codes of political culture

Assessment methods and criteria
The overall semester grade consists of points obtained for: 1) class work (oral answers, participation in discussions); 2) self-study (analytical work based on primary sources, individual research work, independent research); 3) control works. Assessment of semester work: 1. Oral answers - 12/20 points 2. Participation in discussions - 6/9 points. 3. Analytical work on primary sources - 2/4 points. 4. Individual research work - 5/8 points. 5. Independent research - 5/9 points. 6. Control work No. 1, No. 2: - 6/10 points. All types of work in the semester have - a maximum of 60 points - a minimum of 36 points The final assessment is in the form of an exam. Exam in written form - 24 / 40 points.
