Learning outcomes
2. To analyze, comment and summarize scientific and analytical texts of culturological format. 5. To collect, organize and analyze information on cultural phenomena, events, historical and cultural processes. 8. To interpret cultural sources (material, printed, visual, artistic) using special literature and certain methods, tо reasonably present conclusions regarding their content. 11. To carry out expert assessment of cultural objects according to the criteria set and to provide recommendations for their social actualization.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Before studying this course, students must know the basic stages and characteristics of the History of Ukraine and the World History, the main features and specific characteristic of Ukrainian and World culture, basic culturological theories and methods of research cultural phenomena and processes. 2. Students must be able to collect and analyze historical and cultural sources, information databases and a set of scientific information; apply the basic principles of research work on events and phenomena of historical and cultural content, use foreign language sources of museum studies. 3. Students must have basic skills of scientific analyses, interpretation and presentation of issues, correct application of scientific-categorical apparatus, systematization of facts and events of historical and cultural content, the ability to generalize and predict.
Course content
“History and Theory of Museum Studies” is devoted to the analysis of theoretical and methodological problems of Museum Studies, the evolution of institutional principles and the development of collecting and museum work during historical epochs. Evolution of museum as a socio-cultural institution. Museums and museums’ business in the Enlightenmentю. The idea of a public museum and its implementation during the XVIII – ХIX centauries. Leading world trends of museum studies in the 20th-early 21st century. History and current state of museum business in Ukraine, The evolution of the museum’s legislation and the normative base, National museum policy. Museum source studies. Scientific acquisition and accounting of museum funds. Modes and systems of storage of museum collections. Study attribution and examination of objects of museum value. Restoration and conservation of historical and cultural monuments. Museum architecture. Scientific and exposition work of the museum.

Assessment methods and criteria
1. Oral presentation, additions and participation in discussions at seminars: 21/35 points 2. Self-study (research of private collections): 5/10 points 3. Self-study (research of history of restoration business): 12/20 points 4. Self-study (writing the text of a museum tour): 10/15 points 5. Final test in writing - 12/20 points Final assessment in the form of credit: the final number of points in the course (maximum 100 points) is determined as the sum of points for systematic work during the semester, taking into account the final test. Credit is set based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester and does not provide for additional assessment activities.
