Prerequisites and co-requisites
To successfully complete the course, students must first master the disciplines: "Basics of Linguistics: Synchrony", "Linguistic Studies of Oriental Languages", "Introduction to Oriental Philology". Students should also know the theoretical foundations of modern linguistics and possess the skills of analytical and research work.
Course content
The goal of the discipline is to acquaint students with the main phonetic, lexical, grammatical, syntactic and stylistic features of the modern Japanese language, to generalize their understanding of the linguistic picture of the Japanese world, to provide theoretical knowledge necessary for the formation of the competencies of a future philologist-researcher and professional translator.Abstract. "General Theoretical Course on a Second Oriental Language (Japanese)" is aimed at forming students' abilities, skills and competencies necessary for scientific research work with basic knowledge of Japanese as a second Oriental language. Students are expected to acquire general knowledge of phonetics, phonology, lexicology, grammar, syntax and stylistics of the Japanese language. The discipline ends with an exam.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course provides for the following forms of organization of study: lectures, seminar classes and unsupervised work. The main types of work and, accordingly, the objects of semester control are: classwork (oral answers, participation in discussions, blitz surveys) and modular control work. A student can score a maximum of 60 points and a minimum of 36 points for performing the prescribed types of work. In detail, the criteria for evaluating the types of works during the semester are presented in the work program of the discipline, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
The total grade consists of points received for work during the semester (maximum – 60 points, minimum – 36 points) and points of the final assessment in the form of an exam (maximum – 40 points, minimum – 24 points). The format of the exam is written: the ticket consists of two theoretical questions, each of which is evaluated with a maximum of 20 points. The evaluation criteria are presented in detail in the work program of the discipline, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
