Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To have deep knowledge of the state and foreign languages for the written and oral communication purposes, professional and scientific communication in particular; to present research results in the state and foreign languages.
PLO 6. To apply knowledge of expressive, emotional and logical linguistic means, and speech techniques in order to achieve intended pragmatic results and establish successful communication.
PLO 10. To demonstrate in-depth knowledge of folklore studies, intercultural communication and the foreign language.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The student must successfully master the following subjects: "General English", “The Theory of the Foreign Language (English)”, “General Linguistics” and
To know: basic linguistic terminology; linguistic analysis principles; semantics, structure and functioning of the English language units of all levels;
To be able to: apply linguistic tools in practice;
Have basic skills of sampling, analysing and interpretating speech facts; communicating on linguistic issues.
Course content
The course is aimed at introducing the provisions of communication theory to the students and their mastering the approaches to studying texts from various spheres of communication.
The course consists of four parts: the first highlights the problems related to the definition of the main concepts and areas of communication theory application and its connection with other disciplines, the second is devoted to the consistent study of such types of communication as interpersonal, group and mass, the third is devoted to the problems of intercultural communication, the fourth considers corporate communication. The course is aimed at deepening the knowledge gained in the process of mastering other linguistic subjects, it provides an opportunity to obtain specific knowledge in the field of communication studies and master the text analysis skills.
Classes are held in the form of lectures and practical classes. The discipline ends with an exam.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The methods of instruction entail lectures, practical classes, and self-study. The course is taught through such instructional activities as linguistic analysis of language material, presentation, and participation in practical classes.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course ends with an exam. Students’ performance during the term is the sum of the points accumulated for linguistic analyses of language material, presentations, and participation in practical classes. The minimum score for the semester is 36 points, while the maximum score equals 60. The minimum score for the exam is 24 and the maximum score is 40.
