Learning outcomes
PLO 7. To analyze, compare and classify different trends and schools in Linguistics. PLO 9. To characterize theoretical principles (concepts, categories, principles, basic concepts, etc.) and applied aspects of the chosen linguistic specialization. PLO 11. To carry out a scientific analysis of language, speech and literary material, interpret and structure it taking into account appropriate methodological principles, formulate generalizations based on independently processed data. PLO 16. To use specialized conceptual knowledge in a chosen linguistic field to solve complex tasks and issues, which require updates and integration of knowledge, often under conditions of incomplete or lacking information and contradictory requirements.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Proficiency in the German language at the B2/C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, demonstrating acquired skills using lexical and grammatical material learned and mastered in previous courses according to the educational program.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to develop linguistic competence in students, skills in distinguishing common and distinctive features in different systemic languages, and the ability to use the comparative method in the process of learning foreign languages. It also aims to provide a proper level of theoretical preparation for further mastery of the German language and conducting individual linguistic research within the scope of the undertaken master's projects. The course includes 12 content modules and 1 module-based assessment. The final assessment is an exam. The course involves the comprehensive implementation of practical, professional, cognitive, developmental and educational objectives.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities throughout the semester include: Assignments carried out as part of independent work. Mid-term assessments, which may include oral responses, contributions, participation in discussions during lectures and seminars, quick quizzes, and tests. Projects and presentations.
Assessment methods and criteria
The maximum number of points for the semester evaluation is 60 points, and the minimum is 36 points. Types of assignments and their corresponding points: Oral responses, statements on a topic, contributions during quick quizzes/discussions LO 1.1-1.4, 2.1-2.4 (0.5/2 points). Presentations, essays, reports, creative tasks, mini-projects LO 1.1-1.4, 2.1-2.4 (5/10 points). Summarizing LO 1.1-1.4 (0.5/2 points). Module work (testing) RN 1.1-1.4 (4/10 points). The exam consists of two parts: 1) test (40 questions) 20 points; 2) elaborated oral response to a theoretical question (1 question) 20 points. The minimum grade for the exam is 24 points, and the maximum is 40 points. Students who have scored less than the critical minimum of 36 points in total are not allowed to take the exam.
