PLO 2. To know English language in order to perform written and oral communication in professional and academic areas; to present the results of research in English language. PLO 5. To find the most effective means of cooperation with professional staff and professional groups at different levels. PLO 10. To collect and systematize linguistic, literary and folklore facts, to interpret and translate the texts of different styles and genres (according to the chosen specialty). PLO 16. To apply specific and conceptual knowledge in particular philological area for solving difficult tasks and problems, being able to refresh and integrate the knowledge under conditions of uncertain information and contradictory requirements.

Full-time form

To have the basic knowledge of such disciplines as Ancient Greek language, History of Ancient Greek language, Greek hermeneutics", "Historical dialectology of Ancient Greek language. This is compulsory discipline in the cycle of professional training of specialists at educational Masters qualification level. It is the basic course for the study of the following disciplines "Comparative typology of ancient and modern Greek languages and Diachronic dimensions of Greek lexicology. The course is designed for students who have not studied modern Greek.

Objectives of the discipline – to form the basic knowledge about the main features of the modern Greek language complex; to master the peculiarities of the modern Greek pronunciation; to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge about the grammatical structure of the modern Greek language, its syntactic and lexical subsystems; to master basic language competencies. The course is based on theoretical and practical studies of the phonetic, morphological and syntactic structure of the modern Greek language in the functional aspect. The characteristic of the modern Greek language system is presented in a comprehensive way: all aspects of the language are studied in parallel with the development of speech skills and abilities. The language structure is studied in typical communicative contexts and the main types of speech activities (listening, speaking, reading, writing). The course consists of three content parts: 1) reading and writing, pronunciation; 2) active vocabulary building and mastering basic grammar; 3) proper use of language in different communicative situations.

Semester assessment. The scores for the semester comprise the points for the mastering of the materials for the entire course. The total score for the semester consists of the points for the classwork and independent work. All the activities for the semester are estimated at 60/100 points in total.
