PLO 7. To analyze, to compare and to classify different trends and schools in linguistics. PLO 9. To characterize the theoretical background (concepts, categories, principles, basic concepts, etc.) and applied aspects of the chosen philological specialization. PLO 11. To carry out a scientific analysis of language, speech and literary material, to interpret and to structurize it taking into account appropriate methodological principles, to formulate generalizations based on independently processed data. PLO 15. To сhoose optimal research approaches and methods for the analysis of specific linguistic or literary material. PLO 16. To use specialized conceptual knowledge of certain philological field to solve complex tasks and problems that requires knowledge updating and integrating, often in conditions of incomplete/insufficient information and conflicting requirements.

Full-time form

Students should have a sufficient level of linguistic and philological competence within the course of study in the first cycle of higher education (Bachelors degree); know the linguistic paradigms, structure of linguistics and its theoretical foundations; master the basic linguistic concepts and categories, theoretical statements and approaches of linguistics; be aware of the history of formation and development of linguistic science; use linguistic terminology fluently and have the skills of linguistic and specific philological analysis.

Objectives of the discipline – to acquaint students with the latest theoretical and categorical apparatus and its role in the paradigm of the development of linguistic knowledge, to develop students skills in analyzing language and speech material using the methods of the latest linguistic disciplines. Annotation of the discipline. The discipline is aimed at students awareness of modern epistemes, methods and approaches, used in various modern branches of linguistics. During the course, students study the latest research approaches that have developed within the framework of various linguistic "subdisciplines linguoculturology, linguoconceptology, communicative linguistics, discourse studies, corpus linguistics. The discipline forms the Masters skills to apply the theoretical knowledge in practice of direct analysis of empirical language and speech data.

Methods of teaching: lectures, independent work, video materials, video presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint). Forms of studies: Written surveys, essays, reviews, written analysis of academic literature, preparing presentation, open-ended questions, final test.

Semester assessment. The scores for the semester comprise the points for the mastering of the materials for the entire course. The total score for the semester consists of the points for the classwork (which provides for independent work with the theoretical materials for the classwork: written test, written analysis of the academic resources, open-ended questions) and for independent work (making reports and preparing presentations), independent work (writing essays, preparing presentations) and final test. All types of activities for the semester are estimated as follows: 100 points maximum, 60 points minimum. Final test: LR 1.1-18; LR 2.1-2.6; LR 4.2-4.3 – 12/20 points. Final assessment: credit test.
