Learning outcomes
PLO 4. To assess and analyze critically vital social, individual and professional issues and offer tactics for their resolution, in difficult and unpredictable conditions, which require the application of new approaches and forecasting. PLO 16. To use specialized conceptual knowledge in a chosen linguistic field to solve complex tasks and issues, which require updates and integration of knowledge, often under conditions of incomplete or lacking information and contradictory requirements. PLO 20. To undertake pre-translation analysis of specialized texts of various styles and genres. PLO 21. To know the specifics of translator’s work in various fields (textual, media, audiovisual, web-space) and be able to use necessary tools and techniques. PLO 23. To be able to plan the process of specialized interpreting and translation in accordance to the stages of a translation project.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The student should know: basic concepts of translation studies, linguistics, communication theory; principles and methods of linguistic and stylistic analysis and translation analysis of texts; peculiarities of semantics, structure and functioning of units of all levels of the Italian language; lexical-semantic and structural-grammatical characteristics of the Italian and Ukrainian languages; be able to: consciously determine the genre and style of the text for translation; apply in practice the acquired knowledge of the principles of translation from the Italian language; work with lexicographic sources; formulate thoughts in the Ukrainian literary language; apply background knowledge in practice; to have basic skills of selection, analysis and interpretation of speech facts; work with modern information technologies; to adapt and withstand stress in a new situation.
Course content
The aim of the course is to provide students with the basics of translation competence in written and oral translation from the Ukrainian language into Italian. The main objective of the course is for students to acquire knowledge of linguistic-stylistic, cognitive, communicative and pragmatic aspects of translation into Italian. During practical classes, written and oral translation (consecutive translation, translation from a sheet) is carried out from authentic Ukrainian texts of the relevant genres and styles: news reports, analytical author's articles, official materials from the websites of international organizations, promotional materials of companies and enterprises, communiques, statements, speeches, interviews, press conferences, etc. The subject matter of the texts touches on the current problems of the situation in Ukraine and in the world.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities during the semester: notes, surveys, oral exercises and tasks, written and oral (sequential and from the sheet) translations of Ukrainian texts of various genres into Italian.
Assessment methods and criteria
The quality and completeness of the assimilation of knowledge is checked by means of surveys in practical classes and checking homework. Knowledge acquisition is checked both orally and in writing: - presence and performance of interpretation tasks in practical classes - 40 points, - performing written translations as homework - 30 points, - final test - 10 points. The maximum number of points per semester is 80, the minimum is 48. The final assessment in the form of credit involves oral (max. 10 points) and written translation (max. 10 points). The maximum number of points for credit is 20, the minimum is 12.
