Learning outcomes
PLO 3. Apply modern methods and technologies, in particular information technologies, for successful and effective implementation of professional activities and ensuring the quality of research in a specific philological field. PLO 6: To use knowledge on expressive, emotive, logical language means and speaking techniques in order to achieve the intended pragmatic result and organize successful communication. 7. Analyze, compare, and classify different directions and schools in linguistics. PLO 8. Evaluate historical achievements and new developments in translation, language and literary studies. PLO 13. To explain the essence of both specific linguistic issues and one’s point of view and its justification to experts and laypeople in an accessible and argumentative manner, particularly to individuals who are studying. PLO 18: To present individual study results to the scholarly community via scholarly publications or conference, round-table, workshop etc. reports.

Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to acquaint translation students with the basics of theoretical and practical rhetoric, to provide knowledge of the basics of classical and modern rhetoric as a science of speech and mental activity aimed at persuasion and goal achievement through one's own discourse, as a theory of argumentation, and as a science of eloquence. Abstract of the academic discipline: The composition of the course: "Formation of rhetoric as a science of eloquence and oratory" and "Theory of argumentation as an important component of rhetoric." The first is aimed at mastering the tasks and basic concepts of modern rhetoric in their historical setting, at getting acquainted with the best examples of speech, starting from Antiquity.The second is aimed at the analysis of the components of rhetoric as a system and familiarization with the techniques of the modern theory of argumentation, which is important for the translator's work.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, seminar classes, practical, independent work; tasks assigned to independent work - preparation for lectures, seminar classes, practicals, presentation of the topic; answers to the blitz survey before the start of the lecture; oral answers at seminar classes (main answers and additions); defense \ presentation on the chosen topic of the discipline.
Assessment methods and criteria
Methods: Semester assessment: credit. The distribution of points is carried out as follows: 75 points - during the semester and 25 points - credit. Evaluation criteria: oral answers, additions, participation in discussions at seminars, blitz surveys: RN 1.1 - 1.3, 2.1-2.2, 3.1-3.2, 4.1-4.2 - max. 40 points; defense\presentation of the chosen topic: RN 1.1-1.3, 2.1-2.2, 3.1-3.2, 4.1-4.2 - max. 60 points; . the assessment consists of two tasks: a theoretical question and a defense of the topic chosen for discussion; evaluation of all types of work is carried out in points, in accordance with the provisions of clause 7.1 of the RPND.
