Learning outcomes
PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyse and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 5. Collaborate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, proponents of different political views, etc. PLO 22. Use the knowledge of history and culture of Ukraine and Spanish- and English-speaking countries for ensuring successful communication and adequate translation. PLO 23. Identify and analyse the specific features of a communicative situation in translation and impact on translation decisions. PLO 24. Interpret consecutively from Spanish and English and know the fundamentals of note taking. PLO 28.1 Demonstrate the ability to implement communicative interlingual mediation on the basis of the knowledge of linguistic and cultural specifics.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
To successfully complete the course, students must know Spanish and Ukrainian at a level not lower than B2, be able to perform non-specialised paragraph-phrase consecutive translation from Spanish into Ukrainian, know and be able to use the most common translation techniques and methods to solve translation difficulties and achieve equivalence, be able to maintain a thematic glossary and learn by heart interlingual equivalents that are potentially useful in interpreting situations.
Course content
The discipline belongs to the elective block "Translation in Intercultural Communication" of the educational and professional programme. It has a specialised nature and is a two-semester course. The course introduces students to the basic information about consecutive interpreting, its essential characteristics in comparison with other types of translation, typical situations of its application and relevant techniques that need to be trained for successful interlingual and intercultural mediation: memorisation and translator shorthand, typical translation transformations in consecutive mode, introduces elements of crisis management in interpreting: calquing, hyperonymic translation, transcription, etc. Particular attention is paid to the need for intercultural adaptations in a bilateral interpreting situation. Lectures are delivered in Spanish. Practical classes are conducted in Spanish and Ukrainian.

Assessment methods and criteria
During the seventh semester, evaluations include participation in classes (max. - 18), a test assessing knowledge of interlingual equivalents (max. - 24), consecutive bilateral interpretation (max. - 24), note of lectures (maximum score - 16), and a test covering the content of lectures (max. - 18), final assessment: intermediate control. In the eighth semester, assessments include participation in classes (min. - 11, max. - 18), a test on knowledge of interlingual equivalents (min. - 7, max. 12), consecutive bilateral interpretation (minimum 12, maximum 20), an individual task focused on the development of translator shorthand (min. - 6, max. - 10). During the exam, students are evaluated on oral bilateral consecutive interpretation (min. - 18, max. - 30) and a comment on the note-taking peculiarities and the interpretation techniques employed (min. - 6, max. - 10).
