Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Сommunicate freely on professional issues with experts and non-experts in Ukrainian, Spanish and English, in oral and in written form, use these languages to ensure effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques necessary to produce oral and written texts of different genres and styles in Ukrainian, Spanish and English. PLO 14. Use Spanish and English in oral and written form, in different genre-stylistic varieties and registers of communication (official, unofficial, neutral), to solve communicative tasks in everyday, social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life. PLO 21. Interpret, abstract, annotate and adequately translate (from Spanish, English and Ukrainian) oral and written texts of various styles and genres, except highly specialized ones. And also PLO 8, 9, 23, 24.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The student should know: basic linguistic terms; principles of analysis of linguistic material; peculiarities of semantics and functioning of units of all levels of English; know the lexical and grammatical material provided by the programme of the 3rd semester of the discipline. In addition, the student should be able to apply linguistic tools in practice; have elementary skills in selecting, analyzing, and interpreting linguistic facts; communicate on linguistic topics; apply the acquired knowledge and skills in simulated communicative situations.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline "The English Language and Translation" is the formation of English communicative competence essential for effective intercultural communication, deepening students' practical knowledge in phonetics, vocabulary, and grammar; to acquaintance with the ways of transferring the meanings of linguistic units of the source language into the target language based on in-depth knowledge of English in all its aspects, deepening the linguistic and linguistic and cultural erudition of students. The training is based on fundamental principles of the communicative approach to foreign language learning with authentic materials and modeling of real communicative situations. It is conducted through practical classes and individual students' work. The discipline ends with an exam at the end of the semester.

Assessment methods and criteria
During the semester, the assessment is carried out in accordance with the types of work and forms of control described in clause 7.1 (answer in practical classes, written assignment, individual creative work, tests). The grade is based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester and does not include additional assessment measures. Students who score the minimum positive number of points - 60 - receive "passed". Students who do not score the minimum positive score of 60 points receive a "fail" grade. Students who have scored less than 60 points in total for the semester must pass the test by completing the material on the topics for which they have a debt in the form of writing independent works or, if necessary, write a test.
