Students should know general information about language, its nature, functions and levels; have basic skills of language analysis at all levels of its structure in accordance with the primary school curriculum (analysis of grammatical forms and syntactic structures, etymological and word formation analysis, translation, analysis and interpretation of sentences and texts).
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to acquaint students with the basics of Latin grammar, the principles of formation of professional terms of Latin origin, the development of skills in etymological and structural-semantic analysis of Latin derivatives in modern languages, reading, translation and analysis of Latin texts. Summary of the subject. The discipline "Latin for Translators" introduces students to the basics of phonetics, morphology, word formation and syntax of the Latin language, the principles of derivation and borrowing from Latin into modern languages, the heritage of Latin maxims and established phrases. Its subject is the study of the patterns of development of the Latin language and its influence on modern European languages. The discipline provides an understanding of the lexical structure and grammar, word-formation models and semantics of Latin affixes, the Latin component in professional philological terminology; develops skills in reading, translating and commenting on Latin texts with a dictionary, etymological and word-formation analysis of Latin derivatives.

Assessment methods and criteria
The semester score is formed by the points obtained in the process of mastering the material on all course topics and completing independent assignments. A student can get a maximum of 100 points: 30 for oral answers in practical classes, 12 for participation in discussions, 24 for creative assignments, 14 for open-ended tests, and 20 for the final test in the form of tests. The total number of points in the discipline (maximum 100 points) is determined as the sum of points for systematic work during the semester, taking into account the final control work. The grade is based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester and does not include additional assessment measures. Therefore, the final grade in the discipline (minimum 60, maximum 100 points) consists of the sum of the number of points for semester work (minimum 48, maximum 80 points) and the final test (minimum 12, maximum 20 points).
