Full-time form

The syllabus is aimed at students who have successfully learnt theoretical and practical disciplines in language and translation fields in accordance with the educational and professional bachelor program. To pass the exam in this discipline a student must know the Ukrainian language at the C2 level, and the English language – at the C1 level; be able to utilize these language in different professional spheres.

“English in Professional Communication” is the elective discipline of the educational programs “Translation from German (French/Spanish/Italian/Portuguese) and English”. Together with other disciplines of the educational program the purpose of “English in Professional Communication” is to provide the fluency in the second foreign language and to prepare students to carry out professional interpreting and translation activity in the language pair English ↔ Ukrainian. The discipline is focused upon improving the command of the second foreign language with the possibility of translation due to broadening the vocabulary with lexical units from modern professional fields of human activity.

1. To read and discuss English texts determined by theme blocks. 2. To listen and discuss English texts on different topics. 3. To write papers, essays, articles in English. 4. To involve students in participation in dialogues, presentations, discussions in English of different professional topics determined by the syllabus. 5. To carry out interpreting and translation in the English ↔ Ukrainian direction in the different relevant professional fields.

For each semester during practical classes the following types of work get assessed: oral and written tasks, individual tasks and group projects within separate theme blocks. After completing the corresponding theme blocks written tests are conducted with the aim of determining students’ level of written and oral communication in the second foreign language. The semester score is formed out of points a student has earned in the process of learning the material referring to the syllabus theme blocks. In the 7th semester students take a pass/fail exam. The total score is determined by the number of points a student has got in the process of carrying out relevant academic tasks. The maximum score is 100 points, and the minimum score is 60 points which correspond to the mark “Passed”. In the 8th semester students take an exam. The maximum score for the semester is 60 points; the maximum score for the exam is 40.
