successful completion of the courses: "Practical Course of French, Practice of Translation and Interpretation (French) (within the scope of the second year of studies), "Introduction to Linguistics", "Introduction to Translation Studies".
Course content
The course is an integral part of the basic training of a translator, since the vast majority of non-fiction texts contain terminological units. The correct choice of approach to the translation of a terminological unit requires an understanding of the properties of the term, the ability to recognise them or find them in reference sources, and the ability to compare the meanings of terms in one language and in other language(s).
The objective is to develop the skills of choosing an adequate strategy for translating professional texts containing terminological units, as well as the ability to solve problems of terminological variants in bilingual dictionaries and to find cross-lingual equivalents of terminological units that are not available in bilingual translation dictionaries.
The training involves the acquisition and application of theoretical knowledge of the properties and characteristics of terms and terminology systems to solve professional problems.
