Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with experts and non-experts in Ukrainian, English and French languages, in oral and in written form, use these languages to organize effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 9. Characterize dialect and social varieties of French and English languages, describe the sociolinguistic situation. PLO 10. Know the rules of standard language and be able to apply them in practice. PLO 14. Use French language in oral and written form, in different genre-style varieties and registers of communication (formal, informal, neutral), for solving communicative tasks in everyday, public, educational, professional and academic spheres of life. PLO 17. Collect, analyze, systematize and interpret language and speech facts and use them to solve complex tasks and problems in specialized fields of professional activity and / or education.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prior to taking this course, students are required to have successfully completed the following courses in previous years: "Practical French Language Course", "Introduction to Translation Studies", "Introduction to Linguistics", «Practice of translation and interpretation (French)», "Stylistics of the Language Resource (Ukrainian)". Knowledge: normative phonetics, grammar of the French language, vocabulary within the framework of the material covered in previous courses. Abilities: - communicate adequately in French on familiar topics, observing phonetic, lexical and grammatical norms in different situations of everyday life at a level not lower than B1-B2; - do lexical and grammatical analysis of the text; - produce oral and written texts in French. Skills: summarize socio-political and literary texts in French.
Course content
"Practice of French Language" is a discipline of free choice, being a part of the block of disciplines of the full-time professional programme "Specialised Translation and Interpretation (French, English)". The course provides for further expansion and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the French language (speaking, listening, reading and writing) at the level of an independent user (B1/B2 according to the classification of language competences CECR (Cadre Européen Commun de Référence), as well as preparation for effective communication and mediation in French in intercultural contacts. The objective is to develop linguistic competence in the volume and in the fields that would allow the future specialist to specialise in various fields of translation. The course is based on authentic materials and involves simulations of real-life communication situations.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Student activities during the semester: oral presentation, blitz examination, written assignments (essays, compositions, summaries, review), preparing a presentation, tests, translation. Teaching methods: interactive, analysis and synthesis, multimedia, functional and communicative, structuralist, ludic, creative and heuristic.
Assessment methods and criteria
The form of control is intermediate control. There is no final examination. The semester number of points is formed by the points received by the student in the process of completing tasks during classroom and individual activities. The maximum number of points per semester is 100. This includes semester assessment by forms of control: - oral answers, blitz questioning - max. 30 points; - written assignments (essays, summaries, reviews, transcriptions, translations, compositions) - max. 40 points; - preparation and presentation of a project - max. 10 points; - module control: test 10 + written translation - max. 10 points; 30% of the points obtained in a semester are transferred to the next semester.
