Prerequisites and performance requirements To succeed in studying the course, students are required to have prior knowledge of such courses as: “Pedagogy”, “History of Ukrainian literature”, “Ukrainian literature”, “Foreign literature”, “Cultural studies”, “Philosophy”, “Age and educational psychology”. Students are also expected to have knowledge of the theoretical material of the courses “Ukrainian literature” and “The Ukrainian language”; to be able to use computer support of the course content, methods of teaching literature and language, to have the skills of organizing creative activities in the classroom of Ukrainian language and literature.
Course content
Course description The course aims at building a system of knowledge about the use of project work in secondary educational establishments; at equipping students with up-to-date knowledge about the prerequisites of effective use of project-based learning, the stages of project work in the classroom of Ukrainian language and literature; development of students’ critical thinking, promotion of integrative thinking, self-awareness, and self-realization in a variety of creative activities. The course is comprised of two modules. Module 1 examines philosophical and theoretical grounds for project work in language and literature education. Module 2 focuses on the psychological and pedagogical grounds of project work in learning Ukrainian language and literature. Summative assessment is a pass/fail test.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Classroom activities and teaching techniques The course combines such formats of instruction as lectures and practical sessions, independent and project work, and problem-based learning. The major activities that engage students and provide evidence to assess their performance are answers at practical sessions, additions and participation in discussions, project work, a creative task, a module test, and an end-of-course test. For the performance in these activities, a student can score max. 60 and min. 36 points. A detailed description of activities and formative assessment is presented in the course curriculum posted on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment A student’s final grade is based on a 100-point grading system. The total score is made up of the scores earned for the performance during the term (max. 100, min. 60 points). Formative assessment involves answers at practical sessions (24 points), additions and participation in discussions (12 points), presentation of a project (21 points), a creative task (10 points), a module test paper (20 points), and an end-of-course test paper (13 points). A ‘pass/fail’ assessment is based on the outcomes of the course performance during the term and does not involve any additional assessment events. To succeed in the pass/fail assessment, students are required to gain a passing grade of 60; students fail if the score is below 60.
