PLO 5. Make use of major professional concepts and appropriate terminology.
PLO 13. Know modern philological and pedagogical foundations of teaching Ukrainian language and literature, language norms, the socio-cultural development of the Ukrainian language, the use of language units in a certain context, language discourse of fiction and modernity, leading trends in the development of the literary process in Ukraine.
PLO 14. Explain the particularities of the development of the Ukrainian language and literature, the specifics and cultural context of the Ukrainian literary process, the concepts of aesthetic theories, methods, trends, styles, and genres; Ukrainian classic and modern literature in relation to the world literature and culture; compare linguistic and literary facts and phenomena, identify their similarities and differences.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful performance in the course builds on the knowledge acquired in the courses such as “ Introduction to literary studies”, “Ancient Literature”, “Literature of the First Half of the XIX Century”, “Literature of the Second Half of the XIX Century”, “Literature of the late XIX - early XX centuries”, and “Literature of the First Half of the XX century”. Students are also expected to know the major phenomena of the Ukrainian literary process (epochs, styles, trends, schools, developmental concepts, genre-theme relationship, discourses, polemics, etc.); existing periodization of the Ukrainian literature and debates around it; to have elementary skills of analysis of literary texts; independent work with texts; to be able to analyze literary texts employing various research methods (philological, contextual, comparative-historical, aesthetic, stylistic, methods of narratology, structuralism, poststructuralism, deconstruction, etc.); to work with literary sources and critique.
Course content
Course description
The course aims to equip students with knowledge of such major phenomena of the literary process of the 2nd half of the 20th century, as socialist realism and overcoming this trend, emigration literature, the "third flowering" in the works of writers of the older generation, the literature by “the '60s generation"; special attention is paid to the understanding of the artistic phenomena: camp prose, dissident lyrics, chimerical novel. The course consists of one module focused on the study of ideational and aesthetic trends and milestones in the development of Ukrainian literature in the second half of the 20th century. The summative assessment is an exam.

Classroom activities and teaching techniques
The course combines such formats of instruction as lectures, practical sessions, and independent work. The major activities that engage students and provide evidence to assess their performance are answers at practical sessions (report, presentation), additions, participation in discussions, and a module test paper. For the performance in these activities, a student can score max. 60 and min. 36 points. A detailed description of activities and formative assessment is presented in the course curriculum made public on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment
A student’s final grade is based on a 100-point grading system. It is made up of the scores for the coursework during a term (max. 60, min. 36 points) and the scores earned during the exam (max. 40, min. 24 points). The formative assessment considers answers at practical sessions (report, presentation), (40 points), additions, participation in discussions (9 points), and a module test paper (11 points). The summative assessment is a written exam. The exam card contains two questions: a theoretical question on the history of Ukrainian literature of the second half of the XX century (50%); a practical assignment (analysis of a literary work) (50%).
