Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful performance in the course builds on the prior knowledge gained in the courses such as pedagogy, Ukrainian language, history of Ukrainian literature, psychology, a foreign language, methods of teaching Ukrainian, methods of teaching Ukrainian literature, and methods of teaching foreign languages. Students are expected: to have knowledge of language pedagogy and its branches; contemporary formats, methods, and techniques of teaching Ukrainian literature; methods and techniques of teaching foreign languages; methods and techniques of designing creative lessons; to be able to develop activities/tasks to master various aspects of Ukrainian and foreign languages; have a grasp of literature on teaching methods; develop multiple types of projects; to have skills of professional communication in the genres of pedagogical discourse; utilize contemporary concepts of teaching Ukrainian, Ukrainian literature and foreign languages in secondary school.
Course content
Course description The course aims to equip students with knowledge of the skills of planning, implementation, and evaluation of the process of teaching Ukrainian language and literature and a foreign language in secondary school. The course content is underpinned by the fundamentals of international and national linguistics, the communicative approach to language teaching, and the teacher’s responsibility for teaching/learning outcomes. It also aims to build students’ skills in utilizing educational technologies, approaches, methods, principles, and means of teaching Ukrainian and foreign languages and literature on the basis of knowledge about methodology. The course comprises three content areas (blocks), including two modules and a project. Block 1 explores the methodological fundamentals of teaching Ukrainian literature; Block 2 studies the methodological fundamentals of teaching Ukrainian, and Block 3 focuses on the methodological fundamentals of teaching a foreign language. Summative assessment is a pass/fail test.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Classroom activities and teaching techniques The course integrates such formats of instruction, as lectures, practical sessions, and independent and project work. The major activities assessed during a term are performance at practical sessions, presentation of a project, and a module test paper. For the performance on these activities, a student can earn max. 100 and min. 60 points. A detailed description of the criteria to assess all activities during a term is presented in the curriculum of the course made public on the website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course total score is based on the 100-point grade, it is made up of the scores earned for the performance during the term (max. 100, min. 60 points). Formative assessment focuses on answers at practical sessions (8 points), additions, participation in discussions (8 points), creative tasks (30 points, module projects (30 points), and an end-of-term test paper (24 points). A pass/fail test does not envisage any additional assessment. The students gaining the minimal positive score (60 points) pass the test. Those who did not earn 60 points fail.
