PLO 28.1. Know and use methods, techniques, means, and forms of teaching folklore, and be able to organize folklore-related activities for students. The full list of Programme learning outcomes is given in the section «Programme Profile».

Prerequisites and performance requirements 1. Knowledge of theory studied within the course “Ukrainian folklore”. 2. Skills of writing a summary of an academic text. 3. Ability to use methods of teaching literature and language.

Course description The course is elective covering three credits. It is comprised of two modules: 1) Methodology of studying ritual folklore; 2) Methodology of studying non-ritual folklore. Module One aims to study methods, techniques, means, and formats of teaching ritual folklore. It also aims to develop students’ ability to organize extra-curricular activities on non-ritual folklore. Module Two focuses on the study of methods, techniques, means, and, formats of teaching non-ritual folklore and on the ability of students to organize extra-curricular activities on the non-ritual folklore. The course ends with a pass/fail credit.

Classroom activities and teaching techniques The course includes such formats of instruction as lectures, practical sessions, and independent work. The major activities that engage students and further provide evidence for assessing their performance are: answers in class, additions, express-questioning, and tests, presentations. For the performance in these activities, a student can earn max. 100 points and min. 60 points. A detailed description of the assessment criteria of the coursework is shown in the course curriculum displayed on the website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.

Assessment The total score on the course is made up of the scores earned for the performance during the term (max. 100, min. 60 points). A pass/fail assessment does not involve any additional assessment events. To succeed in the pass/fail assessment, students are required to gain a passing grade of 60; students fail if the score is below 60. A detailed description of the assessment criteria of the coursework is shown in the course curriculum made public on the website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
