Prerequisites and performance requirements To successfully master the course content, students must have a knowledge of approaches, methods, principles, means, techniques, and forms of teaching Ukrainian language at school, the psychological age specificity of children in middle secondary school; possess skills to study methodological literature and other innovative sources; follow the personality-oriented approach to teaching and assessing student knowledge; use a variety of approaches, methods, principles, means, techniques, and forms of teaching Ukrainian at school; possess skills of writing compositions.
Course content
Course Description This course is elective, it aims to provide comprehensive training of prospective teachers of Ukrainian language and literature for working in school, to enhance their ability to develop secondary school students’ creative speech. The course focuses on the processes of developing speech creativity as a multifaceted issue studied within a number of related disciplines. The pedagogical aspect of developing speech creativity is underpinned by the tenets of developing speech as an activity. It is emphasized that speech creativity should be fostered in the school age which is marked by especially intensive development of children’s creative ability. The course is composed of one module which focuses on the study of language means of expressing thought. The course ends in a pass/fail test.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Classroom activities and teaching techniques This course is delivered in the Ukrainian language. It integrates such forms of instruction as practical sessions, independent work, research, and project work. The major activities that engage and assess students’ work are classroom activities, team/individual projects, module, and final test papers. A student can earn max. 100 and min. 60 points for the performance during the term. A detailed account of all criteria to assess teaching/learning activities in the course is presented in the course curriculum posted on the website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology. The course ends in a pass/fail test that aims to assess PLO 1. 1-1.4, 2.1-2.4, 3.2.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment The total score of student performance is calculated based on the 100-point rating scale. It is composed of the points earned for the performance during the term (max. 100 and min. 60 points). Summative assessment envisages a pass/fail test which represents the scores accumulated during the term, without administration of additional assessments. The summative assessment integrates scores awarded for classroom activities (40 points), module tests (25 points), project work (15 points), and the final test (20 points). A detailed account of the criteria to assess teaching/learning activities is presented in the course curriculum posted on the website of the Educational and Research Institute of Philology.
