Programme Learning Outcomes:

Prerequisites and performance requirements
Students are expected to have prior knowledge of such courses as a foreign language, pedagogy, and psychology. Successful acquisition of the course is enabled by students’ proficiency in a foreign language at levels B1+ -B2. Students are also expected to know the basic categories of didactics and have a grasp of the psychological features of learners.
Course content
Course description
The course aims at building students’ teaching competence which includes knowledge about and skills of planning, organizing, and implementing teaching foreign languages in basic secondary school as well as reflecting on the performed work. The course is comprised of two modules. Module One examines psychological and pedagogical features of language instruction in basic secondary school and studies the theoretical foundations of building learners’ linguistic competence. Module Two focuses on the theory and practice of building receptive and productive skills and engages students in planning and conducting lesson fragments. The course ends in an exam.

Classroom activities and teaching techniques
The course is delivered in English through a combination of lectures, practical sessions, and independent work. The major activities performed by the students include classroom performance, project work, and module tests. A student can score a maximum of 100 points and a minimum of 60 points for these activities. A detailed description of formative assessment is presented in the course description presented on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment
The term total score is based on the 100-point grading scheme. It is composed of the scores earned during the coursework in the term (maximum 60 points, minimum 36 points) and the scores for the summative assessment – exam (maximum 40 points, minimum 24 points). The formative assessment considers classroom performance (24 points), project work (16 points), and a module test paper (20 points). Summative assessment (exam) consists of written and oral parts. The written part includes a multiple-choice test (15 points) and an answer to an open-ended question (10 points). The oral part includes a pre-prepared talk on a research topic (10 points) and an analysis of an exercise/activity (5 points).
