Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prerequisites and performance requirements Students are expected to know major events of the world history & history of Ukraine; to be able to provide a basic analysis of fictional texts and academic literature that discusses the historic and cultural development of Ukraine and other countries of the world; to possess elementary skills of critical thinking.
Course content
Course description The course explores the main stages of cultural development and typological characteristics of world cultures. Emphasis is placed on the analysis of cultural phenomena and processes that took place in different historical periods, their interrelationship as well as on the particularities that were shaped in different regions of the world, including Ukraine. The course ends with a pass/fail test.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Classroom activities and teaching techniques The major activities that engage students and provide evidence to assess their performance are answers at practical sessions, mini-tests, a creative task, and an end-of-course assignment. A student can score max. 100 and min. 60 points for the performance in these activities, A detailed description of the activities and formative assessment criteria is presented in the course curriculum posted on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment A student’s final grade is based on a 100-point grading system, a pass/fail assessment score is made up of the scores earned for the performance during the term (max. 100, min. 60 points) and does not involve any additional assessment events. The end-of-course assessment score is the sum of points earned for oral contributions in classroom performance (49 points), mini-tests (20 points), a creative task (11 points), and an end-of-course assignment (20 points). To succeed in the pass/fail assessment, students are required to gain a passing grade of 60; students fail if the score is below 60.
