Learning outcomes
PLO 1 Communicate fluently in English on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists, use English for the organization of effective intercultural communication. PLO 5 Cooperate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, supporters of different political views, etc. PLO 9 Characterize dialectal and social varieties of Ukrainian and English, describe sociolinguistic situation. PLO 10 Know language norms and be able to apply them in practical activity. PLO 11 Know the principles and techniques of creating the texts of various genres and styles in English and Ukrainian.PLO 14 Use Ukrainian and English in oral and written form in various genres, stylistic varieties and registers of communication (formal, informal, neutral) for solving communicative tasks in social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The successful completion of the course requires students to possess knowledge of orthoepic, grammatical, lexical, and stylistic rules of literary English. In addition to this, they should demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, meeting the expectations outlined in the programme for the second year of study. "
Course content
The course is aimed at enhancing students' language and speech competencies, cultivating their English language communicative competence, which comprises knowledge, skills, and abilities ensuring effective intercultural communication in both oral and written forms. Teaching is based on the fundamental principles of the communicative approach to foreign language learning, incorporating authentic materials and simulating real communicative situations. The communicative principle is defined as the prioritization of communicative goals within the four types of speech activities, with language and thematic material considered secondary, serving as the foundation for the subsequent development of communication skills.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Planned educational activities: oral responses, spontaneous monological and dialogical speech, listening, written tasks (essay writing, compositions, and letters), presentations, homework/individual reading, and thematic tests. Teaching methods: practical sessions and independent work. "
Assessment methods and criteria
Answers during seminars, spontaneous monological and dialogical speech – max. 2/min. 1.5; written tasks – max. 2/min. 1.5; presentation – max.10/min. 5; homework/individual reading – max. 10/min. 5; thematic test – max. 20/min. 6. Final assessment is not conducted in this semester (interim assessment). It is mandatory for students to write two thematic tests, complete homework and individual reading, and give oral presentations. The final grade is assigned based on the results of the semester-long work. Studentsб who score less than 60 points in total, cannot be certified. The grading scale: "Passed" – 60-100, "Failed" -59.
