PLO 1 Communicate fluently in English on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists, use English for the organization of effective intercultural communication. PLO 2 Work effectively with information: select necessary information from various sources, in particular from professional literature and electronic bases, critically analyze, interpret, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 3 Organize the process of learning and self-education. PLO 5 Cooperate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, supporters of different political views, etc. PLO 6 Use information and communication technologies for solving complex specialized tasks and problems.

Full-time form

Before this course students are expected to know the main stages and characteristics of the historical and cultural process, as well as to have a familiarity with fundamental cultural theories and methods of cultural studies. They should know main historical stages in the development of foreign and Ukrainian cultures. Furthermore, students should be able to collect and interpret information regarding cultural phenomena, processes, and events. In addition to this, they should have basic skills in scientific research and information management. The ability to research, learn and acquire modern knowledge, and the skill to search, process, and analyze information from various sources are considered essential.

The course "Ukrainian and Foreign Culture" is included in the list of compulsory courses for bachelor's programs and has been established based on the research school of the Department of Ukrainian Philosophy and Culture within the Philosophical Faculty at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In this course, students will acquire fundamental knowledge regarding the organizational and scientific-methodical aspects supporting the teaching of Ukrainian and foreign culture. They will gain basic knowledge about the prerequisites, genesis, main stages of development, and features of both foreign and Ukrainian cultures. The course will provide fundamental insights into the main stages of development in global and Ukrainian art, contemporary scientific concepts guiding their study, and the primary artistic movements and figures that have shaped their evolution. In addition to this, students will develop basic understanding of the history of the development and functioning of Ukrainian and foreign cultural space, including its genesis and current state.

Methods: lectures, seminar sessions, independent work, consultations. Educational activities: Seminars are conducted in the form of oral responses, presentations, comments, and/or the preparation and defense of electronic presentations exactly on topics, questions, and in the sequence specified by the educational program. The use of demonstrative, graphic, schematic images, and materials in preparation and work during the seminar is encouraged.

The overall grade for the semester is determined by three components: Evaluation for completing seminar assignments (10 sessions * 7 points = maximum of 70 points). Assessment of the creative project (maximum of 10 points). The final exam takes the form of a test during the last week of the semester. The test consists of 20 questions with a choice of one correct answer. Evaluation for the final exam (a maximum of 20 points). Students, who have scored less than 60 points in all successfully completed forms of assessment, are given the opportunity to raise their grade to 60 points by writing an additional test and completing extra homework.
