Learning outcomes
PLO 1 Communicate fluently in English on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists, use English for the organization of effective intercultural communication. PLO 7 Understand the main issues of philology and approaches to their solution using appropriate methods and innovative approaches. PLO 8 Know and understand the language system, general characteristics of literature as the art of words, history of the Ukrainian language and literature, and be able to apply this knowledge in the professional activity. PLO 13 Analyze and interpret Ukrainian and foreign fiction and folklore, define their specificity and place in literature process (according to the selected specialization). PLO 15 Carry out linguistic and literary analysis of the texts of various styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prior to the initiation of this course, students are expected to: possess knowledge of the fundamental characteristics of literary studies as the science of the art of language; understand the correlation between literary studies and other disciplines within the humanities; have basic knowledge of humanitarian nature; demonstrate proficiency in collecting and interpreting information concerning the nuances of literary process development across various historical epochs spanning centuries; apply main concepts in the analytical examination of literary phenomena and processes; employ interactive and multimedia tools; exhibit basic skills in scientific research and information management; demonstrate a discerning and critical approach to the analyzed phenomena; use foreign-language specialized information sources; engage in interaction and collaboration in learning situations characterized by a search-oriented nature.
Course content
The aim of the course is to systematically organize and enable students to comprehend knowledge in literary studies, develop skills in analyzing literary works, proficiently employ specialized terminology, and gain a thorough understanding of main literary categories and concepts. The emphasis is placed on the meaningful content and specificity of the artistic text. The scope of the academic discipline encompasses literature as a form of artistic activity, including its generic and genre-compositional features, poetics, and genetics of the text, as well as the structure and elements of the internal and external form of an artistic work, the fundamentals of versification, the language of artistic works, the literary process, and the regularities of its development, literary movements, trends, schools, and more. Throughout the course, students are expected to master contemporary methods of literary analysis and apply them practically. "

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities throughout the semester include heuristic discussions, participation in discussions, creative projects, creative assignments (essays, reviews), an abstract, and an exam. Teaching methods encompass lectures, seminars, and independent study.
Assessment methods and criteria
Response during a seminar - 8 max/5 min; comments - 8max/5min; the creative project - 12 max/8 min; creative tasks (an essay, a review) - 12 max /8 min; abstracts - 12 max /4 min. The form of final control is the exam: 24 min/ 40 max. Grades: "Excellent" - 90-100; "Good" - 75-89; "Satisfactory" - 60-74; "Unsatisfactory" - 35-59.
