PLO 2 Work effectively with information: select necessary information from various sources, in particular from professional literature and electronic bases, critically analyze, interpret, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 3 Organize the process of learning and self-education. PLO 5 Cooperate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, supporters of different political views, etc. PLO 6 Use information and communication technologies for solving complex specialized tasks and problems. PLO 7 Understand the main issues of philology and approaches to their solution using appropriate methods and innovative approaches.

1.Knowledge: knowledge of the history of both global and Ukrainian education (based on the complete general secondary education). 2. Abilities: the ability to identify, analyze, and compare information of historical and cultural nature; analyze one's own abilities, inclinations, and interests. 3. Basic skills: the skills to work with scientific texts, to systematize materials necessary for studying, to organize of one's own learning activities effectively.

The course provides the overview of the main principles, leading development trends, and historical stages in the establishment of higher education both in Ukraine and globally. It entails the analytical examination and impartial evaluation of the causative factors and historical antecedents that led to the inception of universities worldwide. The distinctive influence of global university traditions on the configuration of the Ukrainian education system, the historical evolution of the Ukrainian university education system, and the sequential phases in the establishment and progression of Kyiv National University (KNU) are meticulously characterized. The history of formation, the main stages of development and the structure of philological / cultural science, as well as the history of relevant research at KNU are outlined. Students will gain insight into the lives, creative pursuits, and scholarly legacies of eminent Ukrainian philologists and culturologists. In addition to this, the module delves into the contemporary role and position of a philologist within society, as well as the organizational aspects of the educational process and the cultivation of independent work among students at the university.

Educational activities throughout the semester: testing/express-inquiry; completion of independent tasks: preparation of abstracts / presentations / essays; presentation/case project; modular tests. Teaching methods: lecture, independent work.

It is prescribred in the course to have two modules. Following the thematic plan of lectures, all results are systematically assessed on the semester. For the chosen topic of the first module, students wtire an abstract/make a presentation (individual or the group one) /an essay and make a report during a lecture (approximately by October 15th). Within the second module, students create a presentation/a case project /an essay (the form of control is determined by the lecturer of the specific lecture stream) around November 30th. At the end of each module, control works are conducted with test tasks and open-ended questions (around the 7th and 15th academic weeks of the semester); the grades for the tests are added to the total grades of the modules. The grades for both modules are calculated as follows: 100 points - maximum, 60 points - minimum.
