Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before studying the discipline the student should:
learn the educational material from such disciplines as: "Expertise of verbal folklore"; "Fixation and edition of folklore product", "Traditional cultural practices".
know the theory of folklore, the genreology of folklore, the regional specifics of the folklore material;
have the skills of identifying the folklore genre forms in statics and dynamics; abstracting of a scientific text and the methods of the folklore field research.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to study folklore as an integral system of the traditional meanings in complex; to develop the skills of the semiotic analysis of a folklore text, as well as the methods of identifying its genre affiliation; to elucidate the textual features of the product of collective creativity and their correlation with the individual creative product; to identify the multifunctional connections of folkloristics with other humanitarian scientific disciplines.
Annotation. The discipline is included in the block of the selective disciplines "Applied folklore studies" and consists of three content parts. Part 1. "Systemic features of folklore transmission" is devoted to the study of the mechanisms of generation, preservation and dissemination of the traditional meaning; In part 2. "The role of folklore transmission in the self-organization of folklore" attention is focused on the identification of the types of the transmission mechanisms in communication. Part 3. "Narrative as a category and function of the folklore text" is devoted to the application of the modern narratological theories to folklore content.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course includes 3 content parts. Part 1. "Systemic features of folklore transmission" is devoted to the study of the mechanisms of generation, preservation and dissemination of the traditional meaning; In part 2. "The role of folklore transmission in the self-organization of folklore" attention is focused on the identification of the types of the transmission mechanisms in communication. Part 3. "Narrative as a category and function of folklore text" is devoted to the application of the modern narratological theories to folklore content. The classes are held in the form of the lectures and seminars, which are evaluated according to the types of work and forms of control. The discipline ends with an exam. The students who scored a total of less than the critical-calculated minimum - 36 points, are not allowed to take the exam.
Assessment methods and criteria
Knowledge control is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides two-level assessment of the learned material, assessment of theoretical training - learning outcomes (knowledge) – 40% of the total mark, and assessment of practical training – learning outcomes (skills, communication, autonomy and responsibility) – 60% of the total mark.
Assessment of the semester work: oral answer at the seminar – 3/2 points, doing the individual task – 10/5 points, writing two tests – 13/10 points. The general mark for the semester consists of the points obtained for the classroom work, which also synthesizes independent work on studying theoretical material in order to prepare for the classroom work. All the types of the work for the semester have a total of 60/36 points. The discipline ends with an exam in the form of a written test (40 / 24 points).
