Learning outcomes
PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of words, the history of languages and literature being studied, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities.
PLO 9. Characterize the dialectal and social varieties of the Ukrainian language, describe the sociolinguistic situation.
PLO 10. Know the norms of the literary language and be able to apply them in practical activities.
PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and methods of creating oral and written texts of various genres and styles in national and foreign (foreign) languages.
PLO 16. To know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of folkloristics, linguistics and literary studies, to be able to apply them in professional activities.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The student must successfully master the basics of literary theory according to school programs on Ukrainian and foreign literature.
A necessary condition for access to the discipline "Introduction to Literary Studies" is the following student competencies:
Know:
• principles of literary analysis of works of art in the unity of content and form;
• peculiarities of artistic directions;
• main epic, lyrical, dramatic, lyric-epic genres;
• specificity of the literary process.
Be able:
• orally and in writing to formulate one's own thoughts and judgments about artistic works and the literary process;
• characterize artistic images;
• classify artistic means and determine their functions in an artistic text.
Have elementary skills:
• analysis of artistic text;
• apply the acquired knowledge in practice (while writing essays, tests).
Course content
The study discipline "Introduction to Literary Studies" is a mandatory course for students of the specialty "Folklore, Ukrainian Language and Literature and Foreign Language", which involves the study of three interrelated thematic blocks: literature as a form of art, a work of art and the principles of its analysis, the literary process in its theoretical understanding, taking into account the latest achievements of scientific thought. Thus, the student will gain systematic knowledge about the unique nature of verbal art, its functions, poetics, types and genres, directions and currents.

Assessment methods and criteria
The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam:
• the maximum number of points on the exam is 40 points, the minimum number of points (positive grade) that are added to semester grades is 24 points (60% of the maximum number of points assigned to the exam);
• the exam is conducted in the form of a written work, the exam ticket consists of two tasks: a theoretical question (50%), a practical task (50%); each question is evaluated with a maximum of 20 points.
