Course content
The discipline "Fundamentals of Consecutive Interpreting from the First Language" consists of two content parts: the first includes theoretical foundations of consecutive translation, while the second offers practical tasks in consecutive translation of texts of various genres. It involves a comprehensive study of the German language (in all its aspects, learning the language concurrently with the development of language skills through communication). The educational discipline is predominantly practical, considering the specifics of translation from German into the native language, and concludes with an exam. The proposed course is based on current research in consecutive oral translation by Western and domestic translation scholars. It allows students to familiarize themselves with key issues in consecutive translation, including requirements for the professional competence of a translator, types of consecutive translation and their specificity, the sphere of functioning, a comparative characterization of the features of consecutive translation, reasons for difficulties in consecutive translation, and ways to overcome them. Practical tasks in consecutive oral translation primarily aim at developing skills and abilities in translation using authentic text materials.
