The discipline "History of German Language" is taught in the fifth semester of the bachelor's degree and consists of seven content modules. It includes one modular assessment during the semester and a final course test. The course material outlines the major milestones in the development of the standard German language, provides knowledge of the main historical changes at the phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic levels, and gives an understanding of the influence of historical and sociocultural factors on the formation of modern German as a cohesive structure. It ensures a proper level of theoretical preparation for further language acquisition and conducting one's own linguistic research within the framework of coursework, dissertations, and master's theses. Additionally, it develops skills in working with theoretical and lexicographic sources.
