Learning outcomes
PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of German language and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 9. Characterize dialect and social varieties of German language, describe the sociolinguistic situation. PLO 12. Analyse language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 16. Know and understand the basic theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, be able to apply them in professional activities. PLO 17. Collect, analyze, systematize and interpret the facts of language and speech and use them to solve complex problems and problems in specialized areas of professional activity and/or study.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Proficiency in German at level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the ability to demonstrate acquired skills using lexical and grammatical material learned and assimilated in previous courses according to the educational program.
Course content
The discipline "History of German Language" is taught in the fifth semester of the bachelor's degree and consists of seven content modules. It includes one modular assessment during the semester and a final course test. The course material outlines the major milestones in the development of the standard German language, provides knowledge of the main historical changes at the phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic levels, and gives an understanding of the influence of historical and sociocultural factors on the formation of modern German as a cohesive structure. It ensures a proper level of theoretical preparation for further language acquisition and conducting one's own linguistic research within the framework of coursework, dissertations, and master's theses. Additionally, it develops skills in working with theoretical and lexicographic sources.

Methods of assessment: - Discussions - Oral assessments (individual interviews, quick questioning) - Presentations, reports, mini-projects, essays, creative tasks - Summarizing, abstracting - Testing Final assessment: The final assessment for the "History of the German Language" course consists of two parts: 1) Multiple-choice questions (40 questions) 2) Theoretical section (1 question) Evaluation criteria for each form of assessment are provided in the course syllabus.
