Course content
The subject of the discipline is the Germanic languages - their origins, development, commonalities, and differences. The discipline is part of the compulsory block of courses and is an integral part of the study of philological sciences.
The discipline familiarizes students with the characteristic features of the Germanic language group and the main stages of their evolution. It explores questions of external history, such as the history of the ancient Germanic peoples (their migration across Europe, major tribal groups, the formation of tribal unions, the emergence of the first Germanic kingdoms), and internal history (the development of ancient Germanic languages from the Proto-Germanic stage to national languages, common features of their development).
