Prerequisites and co-requisites
Only fourth-year students who have fully completed all the requirements of the curriculum, including the study programs of the courses "Practical Course of the First Foreign Language," "Practice of Written and Oral Translation," "Introduction to Translation Studies," "Comparative Lexicology of German and Ukrainian," "Comparative Grammar of German and Ukrainian," "Terminology of the First Foreign Language," "Linguistic Country Studies," "Specialized Languages," "Translation of Socio-Political Texts," "Translation of Financial-Economic Texts," "Translation of Scientific-Technical Texts," and "Consecutive Oral Bilateral Translation," are eligible to take the comprehensive final examination in translation and the first foreign language (German).
Course content
The content of the Program consists of the subject matter of the study programs included in the Bachelor's Degree Program in Translation from German and English. The main focus of this educational program and specialization is specialized education in German and English language and translation, with a primary emphasis on the translation direction. The comprehensive examination in translation and the first foreign language aims to assess the level of practical skills acquired by the students in using the foreign language, which constitute their acquired communicative and subject-specific competencies: language proficiency, linguistic competence, translation competence, sociocultural competence, linguistic country studies competence, professional competence, etc. This is achieved through the demonstration of the students' theoretical knowledge and their translation practice skills in various areas of translation activity. Future translators and editor-translators showcase their acquired knowledge and practical translation skills in different spheres of translation practice.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The comprehensive final examination in translation and the first foreign language is conducted in the studied foreign language. The structure of the exam reflects its comprehensive nature and consists of three tasks. The first two tasks aim to assess students' translation skills: the first task involves translating a German text into Ukrainian, and the second task involves summarizing a Ukrainian text in German. The third task focuses on evaluating students' ability to express their thoughts freely in the foreign language (German) and engage in communication on social, political, cultural, and professional topics. During the exam, the student presents a topic and responds to questions posed by members of the examination committee.
Assessment methods and criteria
The maximum number of points a graduate can earn is 100. The maximum/minimum possible scores for the written translation of a German text into Ukrainian are 40/24; for the summary translation of a Ukrainian text into German, it is 30/18; for the conversational topic, it is 30/18. When assessing the written translation of a German text into Ukrainian, the criteria include a complete understanding of the content and adequacy of the translation, adherence to translation norms and language conventions. When evaluating the summary translation of a Ukrainian text into German, the focus is on the level of proficiency in written and oral communication within the curriculum, the ability to identify the main points and reproduce the content in the foreign language.
