Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is designed for students who have studied English as a second language during the second, third, and fourth semesters of their studies and have the corresponding level of preparation. The student should be familiar with: basic linguistic terms, principles of analyzing linguistic material, and the characteristics of semantics and functioning of units at all levels of the English language. The student should be able to apply linguistic tools in practice and possess elementary skills in selecting, analyzing, and interpreting linguistic phenomena, as well as engaging in communication on linguistic topics.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to develop English language communicative competence necessary for effective intercultural communication, deepen practical knowledge of students in phonetics, vocabulary, and grammar of the English language, familiarize students with methods of conveying meanings of linguistic units from the original language to the target language based on advanced proficiency in English in all its aspects, and enhance students' linguistic and socio-cultural erudition. Teaching is based on the fundamental principles of the communicative approach to foreign language learning, utilizing authentic materials and simulating real communicative situations. The learning process consists of practical sessions and independent work by students. The discipline concludes with an examination at the end of the semester.

Educational activities throughout the semester include: - Assignments completed during independent work. - Midterm assessments - written assignments. - Oral responses during practical sessions. - Projects and presentations.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester evaluation: - The maximum score throughout the semester is 60 points. - Assignments completed during independent work: LO 2.2, 2.4, 2.5, 3.1 - 5 points each. - Written assessments: LO 1.5, 2.1, 2.2, 2.4, 4.2 - 5 points each. - Oral responses during practical sessions: LO 1.2, 1.3, 1.5, 2.1 - 5 points each (evaluated based on the completeness of the response). - Blitz questioning: LO 2.1, 2.2, 2.4, 3.1 - 15 points (evaluated based on the completeness of the response). - Midterm examination: LO 2.4, 3.1 - 10 points. Final evaluation in the form of an exam: - Written translation of an English text into Ukrainian with a lexical-grammatical commentary - 20 points. - Grammar topic with a task - 10 points. - Discussion on a given relevant topic - 10 points.
