Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is designed for students who have studied the comprehensive educational discipline "History of Foreign Literature" during the first and second semesters and have the corresponding level of preparation. The student should know the basic literary terms, principles of literary analysis, characteristic features, and works of major representatives of the ancient and Western European literary traditions. They should be able to obtain necessary information from literary reference publications, perform analytical reading of literary works, maintain a reading journal and a terminology dictionary, and possess skills in conducting scholarly research and working with literary studies, as well as delivering complex oral and written presentations.
Course content
The subject of the educational discipline includes studying the patterns of development of the literary process from the late 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century, as well as the peculiarities of issues and poetics of the corresponding periods and movements: Naturalism, Symbolism, Modernism, Expressionism, New Objectivity, Exile Literature, "Literature of Ruins," Group 47, Postmodernism, Literature of the "Turning Point," and more. The course familiarizes students with the works of prominent German, Austrian, and Swiss writers in the context of world culture. The discipline contributes to acquiring a complex understanding of concepts related to the history of German-language literature from the 19th to the 21st century (major trends, genres, styles, ideological and artistic concepts), developing skills in contemporary textual analysis, and improving German language proficiency. Teaching is conducted through lectures, seminar sessions, and independent student work. The final assessment for the semester is in the form of an exam.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities: oral responses during seminar sessions, keeping a reading journal and a terminology dictionary, completing a research paper, creative presentation, summarizing literary-critical sources, and a final control work. Teaching methods: lecture, presentation, seminar, independent work, discussion.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final grade for the course is determined by the sum of points from continuous assessment and final examination. The forms of continuous assessment include seminar participation (max 28/min 17 points), maintaining a terminology dictionary, summarizing literary-critical sources (max 6/min 4 points), creative presentation (max 3/min 2 points), research paper (max 5/min 3 points), and writing a final control work (max 18/min 10 points). The total maximum for continuous assessment is 60 points, and the minimum is 36 points. The form of the final examination is an exam, and the grade for the exam is max 40/min 24 points. To be eligible for the exam, a student must earn a minimum of 36 points. To receive a passing grade for the course, the grade for the exam must be at least 24 points.
