Prerequisites and co-requisites
Students should have a general knowledge of language, its nature, functions, and levels. They should possess basic language analysis skills at all levels of its structure according to the primary curriculum of secondary school (analysis of grammatical forms and syntactic constructions, etymological and derivational analysis, translation, analysis and interpretation of sentences and texts).
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to familiarize students with the basics of Latin grammar, principles of forming professional terms of Latin origin, and to develop skills in etymological and structural-semantic analysis of Latin derivatives in modern languages, as well as reading, translation, and analysis of Latin texts. The discipline "Latin for Translators" introduces students to the fundamentals of Latin phonetics, morphology, word formation, and syntax, principles of derivation and borrowing from Latin into modern languages, the heritage of Latin sentences and fixed phrases. Its subject of study includes the exploration of the regularities of Latin language development and its influence on modern European languages. The discipline provides an understanding of the lexical composition and grammar, word-formation models, and semantics of Latin affixes, as well as the Latin component in professional philological terminology. It also aims to develop skills in reading, translation, and commenting on Latin texts with the help of a dictionary, as well as etymological and derivational analysis of Latin derivatives.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, independent work, and practical sessions. Educational activities include oral responses, completion exercises, participation in discussions, creative assignments (essays, research work on Latin derivation/professional terminology of Latin origin), open-ended quizzes, and a final assessment in the form of tests.
Assessment methods and criteria
The semester grade is determined by the points obtained during the assimilation of material from all course topics and the completion of independent assignments. A student can earn a maximum of 100 points, distributed as follows: 30 points for oral responses during practical sessions, 12 points for participation in discussions, 24 points for creative assignments, 14 points for an open-ended examination, and 20 points for the final assessment in the form of tests.
