Learning outcomes
PLO 7. To understand the main problems of Hindi philology and approaches to their solution using appropriate methods and innovative approaches. PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Hindi language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of Hindi texts of various styles and genres. PLO 16. To know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, to be able to apply it. PLO 17. To collect, analyze, systematize and interpret the facts of language and speech and use them for solving complex problems in specialized fields of professional activity and/or education.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of Ukrainian and one of the foreign languages in the scope of secondary school preparation.
Course content
The goal of the discipline is to acquaint future philologists of Eastern languages with the basics of systematic knowledge of synchronic linguistics as the first component of the basic theory of the chosen specialty. The discipline involves the gradual formation of knowledge about the synchronic theory of linguistics as a system of scientific fields - metatheory of linguistics, pragmatics, syntax, designics; highlighting of basic concepts, laws of synchronic linguistics, the knowledge of which is necessary for further mastery of the specialty. The discipline is a part of the complex discipline "Introduction to Philology" and has a purely theoretical orientation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities comprise interactive lectures and seminar classes. Self-study of the students involves performance of written assignments, work with reference literature, dictionaries, Internet resources.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on the oral testing, written assignments, reports and presentations – 36/60 points, modular test papers – 12/20 points, final test paper – 12/20 points (totally 100 points). The credit is given based on the results of the student’s work throughout the entire semester and does not require additional assessment measures. Students who scored 60 points, the required minimum, receive “passed”. Students who failed to score 60 points, the required minimum, receive “failed”. Those students who scored totally less than 60 points during the semester period should complete a test paper in the items which he/she failed to pass. Final score 60-100 – passed; 0-59 – failed.
