Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the "Introduction to Linguistics" and "Introduction to Slavic Philology" course programs. A necessary condition for access to the discipline "Old Slavic language" is the following student competencies: Know: basic information about the Slavic language branch; the general structure of the modern Ukrainian language and other Slavic languages; units of phonetic, lexical, morphological, syntactic levels of Ukrainian and other Slavic languages; functions of units of structural levels of Ukrainian and other Slavic languages. Be able to: express one's own opinions and judgments based on knowledge from the courses "Introduction to Linguistics" and "Introduction to Slavic Philology";
Course content
familiarizing students with the origin of the Old Slavic language, its phonetic-phonological, lexical, morphological, word-forming and syntactic systems in a comparative-historical aspect against the background of linguistic phenomena and processes of the Indo-European and Proto-Slavic periods with a projection on the relevant linguistic facts of modern Slavic languages , primarily Ukrainian and Russian, development of skills and abilities to apply acquired knowledge in the process of reading, commenting, translating and complex linguistic analysis of Old Slavic texts. The academic discipline "Old Slavic language" belongs to the compulsory disciplines and is taught in the 2nd semester of the 1st year. It is Part 2 of the comprehensive discipline "Prophetic Languages".
