PLO 2. To work effectively with information: to select the necessary information from various sources, in particular from professional literature and electronic databases, to analyze critically, to interpret, to arrange, to classify and to systematize it.
PLO 6. To use information and communication technologies for complex specialized tasks and problems of professional activity solving.
PLO 7. To understand the main problems of philology and approaches for their solution with appropriate methods and innovative techniques used.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
To know the Modern Greek language at the A1 level; master the school program on world history; to know the peculiarities of the historical and cultural development of Europe.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to provide thorough professional training of future teachers and translators by introducing students to the countries of the Modern Greek language, to give them a general idea of their geographical features, history, political and social system, culture and literature, in particular, through the lens of language.
The discipline consists of two substantive parts. In the first part, students get an idea of the subject of the course, the main concepts of linguistic and cultural studies. They find out the connection between language and culture. The main topic of the first part is the area where the Greeks lived and the vocabulary used to denote it: toponymy, anthroponymy, ethnonymy. In the second part, students get acquainted with the main periods of Greek history and the vocabulary characteristic of their description: onomastics (characters and events), historicisms. Also, students get acquainted with the socio-cultural realities of Greece and Cyprus and their reflection in the language

Lectures and practical classes; video materials and presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint); independent work (writing essays, preparing reports).
Assessment methods and criteria
The semester number of points is formed by the points received by the student in the process of learning the material from the entire educational course. The overall grade for the semester consists of points received for classroom work (which synthesizes and independent work on processing theoretical material for classroom preparation: oral answers, control papers, tests) and for independent work (preparation of reports, presentations, etc.). All types of work for the semester have the following sum: in the maximum dimension - 100 points, in the minimum dimension - 60 points.
Final assessment: credit.
